The Flemish artist Frans Masereel collaborated with both the Kurt Wolff Verlag in Germany and Pantheon Books in New York. Thanks and kudos to Grove Atlantic art director Gretchen Mergenthaler and designer Becca Fox for this evocative and inspired design based on Masereel’s work, which will serve as the cover of my family memoir Endpapers when it’s published in March 2021. In 1920, my grandfather published Masereel’s graphic novel Die Sonne (originally Le Soleil), in which the woodcut appeared.
